The weather looked good, so I decided to leave work early and head down to the Holy Boulders for a short weekend trip. I drove down Friday afternoon and arrived at the Holiday Inn Express in Murphysboro, Illinois at a fairly reasonable time.
I didn't send a single boulder but I did get some good practice attempts in on some new and old projects.
On Saturday I worked on:
I did every move on Turkey Jerky except for the crux move and finishing the top out. I was close on both but only attempted the finishing moves once.
On Sunday, I worked on:
I hadn't been on Calypso since my first trip down to the Holies. It has been long enough that I forgot the beta and had to re-figure out something that worked for me. I ended up matching my previous high point from years ago. I'm pretty confident I'll be able to finish this one off on my next trip.
I had such a fun time on Turkey Jerky on Saturday that I ended up going to it again. I was hoping another party would be there, because this is not a boulder I think I could do with only two pads without having a spotter to move them around. So I spent my time working on the crux move, eventually figuring out how to stick it and I was able to repeat it multiple times.
I'm really looking forward to getting back on Turkey Jerky and putting it down. I've done every move (excluding the very end) in overlapping links. It might take more than one more session but it feels pretty close.
